Hal Harrell, superintendent of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, announced his retirement Monday, according to a Facebook post by his wife, Donna Goates Harrell.
The Texas Department of Public Safety will have at least 33 officers present at schools throughout the year and the district has hired three new officers.
Uvalde school police chief Pete Arredondo did not appear at the meeting that could decide if he is fired, but his lawyers did present a 17 page document.
