Laskhadweep administration denies permission for Cong leaders from Kerala to visit islands | India News

KOCHI: The Lakshadweep administrationon Saturday denied permission to Congress leaders to visit the islands, which hasbeen witnessing protests seeking withdrawal of the draftlegislation-Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation, saying their visit for political activities will disturb the peaceful atmosphere. It also said there was a possibility of these leaders mingling with large number of people of the islands which may lead to further Covid spread in the islands . Additional District Magistrate S Asker Ali, in his order denying permission for Congress leaders T N Prathapan, Hibi Eden MP, and C R Rakesh Sharma, the national legal advisor of All India Fishermen Congress party, to enter the islands, said their purpose of visit appears to be a political action .

Lakshadweep denies entry to Congress MPs, says visit can be planned effort to disturb peace ANI | Updated: Jul 04, 2021 09:18 IST Kavaratti (Lakshadweep) [India], July 4 (ANI): Lakshadweep Administration has rejected the application of Congress lawmakers Hibi Eden and TN Prathapan for entry permit to Lakshadweep, stating that their visit for political activities will disturb the peaceful atmosphere. Denying them entry permission, the administration on Saturday termed the visit as a part of a planned effort to disturb peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Lakshadweep and said it can cause a possible surge in COVID-19 cases . The administration further added that the purpose of the visit of the MPs to understand problems faced by islanders due to new policies of administration appears to be a political action .
