High schools in Fremont area kick off graduations this weekend

With recent changes in COVID-19 restrictions, area high schools are returning to more traditional graduation ceremonies in 2021. Some schools are still requiring social distancing and masks. Here is a list of upcoming local high school graduations: Fremont Ross High School has set its graduation for 2 p.m. June 6 in Don Paul Stadium. In case of rain, the ceremony will be delayed the same day until 6 p.m. If that Sunday is a total washout, graduation will be held at 7 p.m. June 7. Each senior has received four tickets to provide to friends and family to attend commencement in the stadium.

Robert ‘Bob’ Loften  age 78 of Osakis passed away early Feb. 3, 2021 at the McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, TX. Robert Allen was born on August 11, 1942 in Lakota, North Dakota to Chester and Katherine (Dougherty) Loften. He graduated from Lakota High School with the Class of 1961 having enjoyed participating in several sports during high school. Bob also learned to play percussion and trap drums and was soon playing on weekends with his father’s band. Bob attended Mayville State University in Mayville, ND to become a secondary Math and Science teacher. He married to Kathy Olson in 1962 and they raised five children, Tracie, Tammie, Lynette, Bryan and Nicole. After graduating with his Bachelor degree in 1965, Bob was first hired by the Kensal Public School in Kensal, ND, where he taught for three years. Michael Edward Franzone

Michael Edward Franzone, 26, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2020 at his home in Bradner, Ohio. Although young, Michael led a full life which included so many close friends and family members who loved him dearly. He was a graduate of Lakota High School and Sussex County Community College (Newton, NJ) where he was awarded an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and was also the Student Council President. Growing up in Bradner, Ohio, young Mike enjoyed practicing karate, little league baseball, cross country and track and field. He was also a member of the CLEAR Program, a Girl Scout Brother, helped with Pass it Along, and was the Assistant Coach for Newton Soccer. Mike appreciated spending time with his friends and coworkers, listening to music, and in particular, the very short but special friendship he developed with Lauro Quintero and his family.
