The Kharsia assembly seat in Chhattisgarh has historically been a stronghold for the Indian National Congress party. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been unsuccessful in winning this seat in the past 11 elections. However, in the upcoming elections, the BJP is fielding a candidate from the dominant Teli community in hopes of winning the seat. The seat is currently held by Umesh Patel of the Congress party, who is seeking his third term.
