BHUBANESWAR: The state health department has strongly recommended the use of Ivermectin for Covid patients in home isolation even as the World Health Organisation (WHO) suggested its use only within clinical trials.
A presentation by the health department before chief minister Naveen Patnaik and senior government functionaries and district administration on Tuesday said the state technical committee, headed by Director Medical Education and Training (DMET) has recommended the use of Ivermectin for patients in home isolation.
“Use of Ivermectin is found beneficial in terms of minimizing the transmission in a number of international clinical trials. Data suggest Ivermectin results in quick viral clearance with reduced oxygen dependence,” the health department stated. The government has now asked the Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL) to procure 7.2 lakh tablets.
