South Lakes Housing recognised for promoting healthy lifestyles for workers

SOUTH Lakes Housing has achieved a Bronze Award in the Better Health at Work scheme which helps promote a healthy lifestyle to colleagues and shows a commitment to improving health and wellbeing. The Better Health at Work Award recognises the efforts of employers in the North East and Cumbria in addressing health issues within the workplace. There are four levels to the Award –Bronze, Silver, Gold and Continuing Excellence, with appropriate criteria at each stage to build into an Award Portfolio and organisations are given up to a year per level. Amendments to affordable housing project on Walney approved by Barrow Borough Council

AN APPLICATION to reduce the size of a affordable housing project on Walney from 25 to 22 houses has been approved by Barrow Borough Council. South Lakes Housing plan to build 22 new homes on Solway Drive based on Walney Island, and this application was to confirm the admendment to the plan. The site will include a mix of affordable homes available under shared ownership and to buy and rent. The will be built by Barrow-based Leck Construction Ltd. This is part of the wider project reported back in August 29 where The Mail reported that a green light had been given for 61 new homes in the area.

A LANDMARK town building has been transformed into affordable homes. South Lakeland District Council and South Lakes Housing have completed the development of the former Town Hall in Ulverston into 17 affordable homes. The completion of the project and tenants moving into their new homes represents SLDC helping to deliver 500 affordable homes for rent since 2014 – half-way towards its target of 1,000 new affordable homes for rent by 2025. Mark Wilson, Ulverston Town Councillor, hopes more affordable housing will be built in the town. He said: I m very pleased with the development. I have people stopping me in the street asking if they can live somewhere like that. It s a big point of interest and looks lovely. I wish we could have more affordable housing to help get the 7,000 people off the South Lakeland waiting list. I am very much in favour of affordable housing in the town.
