rescued anglers head back to shore (CBS-3) DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A group of over 25 anglers who were ice fishing on Lake Superior Tuesday had to be rescued as the sheet of ice they were on broke away from the shore. Personnel from the Duluth Fire and Police Departments, St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Coast Guard used a variety of watercraft to pick up the stranded people and bring them back to shore safely. No injuries were reported. As the ice sheet broke free, strong winds were pushing it further into the lake. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department reminds the public that no ice is completely safe especially with the rapidly changing conditions on Lake Superior.
