Galesburg Aldermen voted against a non-binding referendum Monday night, likely signaling a majority of the council fully intends on converting the soon to be shuttered school into a community center. Acquiring the property was also on first reading Monday night, although administration says the city could move forward with acquisition without committing to a substantial investment. City Manager Todd Thompson says the city would accept the property "as is", and the closing date hasn't been set yet but would be sometime after the school year. Aldermen White, Smith-Esters, Davis and Wallace, the same combination that supports Churchill as a community center voted against the referendum. Dwight White called it a stall tactic and "hit and run" from the three aldermen opposed and says he's doesn't understand why they are opposed to do something for youth. The weekend is here and there's plenty of ways to spend your weekend. Saturday is the 20th Annual Abingdon Road Knights Car Show starting at 8:00 am and running throughout the afternoon with money raised to benefit the Abingdon Food Pantry. Registration runs until noon with a $15 entry fee. If you decide to enter and bring a non-perishable item, you'll receive two dollars off the entry. A free t-shirt and dash plaque will be given to the first 100 entries. There will also be food available on the grounds and a 50/50 drawing with proceeds benefiting Hedding Grade School's lunch program. Saturday is also the Team Hope Walk to benefit those affected by Huntington's disease and their families. Team Hope is the Huntington's Disease Society of America's largest national grassroots fundraising event. The Team Hope Walk steps off from the Lake Storey Pavilion at 10:00 am and runs until 3:00 pm. St. Patrick's Catholic Church on South Academy Street is holding
