The 2021 Coast to Coast Dragon Boat Festival reached new lengths this weekend as hundreds of participants returned to Lake Kawana for day three of the action.
The gloomy weather didn t stop the 300+ participants from completing the 5km circuit. With people of all ages taking part in the event it s easy to understand why it s a yearly Sunshine Coast event.

At least two dozen dragon boat clubs and hundreds of paddlers from across the state, including Cairns and Townsville, competed at the event with more than 100 races held over the course of two days.
The Coast club earned their top status following a string of strong results, including being named the fastest women’s, mixed, and open (or men’s) crews in the championships.
The club’s premier mixed crew also picked up the fastest combined times in the 500m and 2km races in a standard, or 20-person, dragon boat.
Overall, the club won a total of 12 medals at the championships, including 10 gold, one silver, and one bronze across the premier and 40-plus age divisions.
