Former Chico State professor going to trial for child porn
A former Chico State professor waived his right to a preliminary hearing at the Butte County Superior Court Wednesday and is set to face charges for possession of child porn.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - Former Chico State professor facing charges of possession of child porn waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday at the Butte County Superior Court, Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said.
64-year-old Laird Easton was arrested in January for allegations of possessing a hundred images of child porn.
A Chico State professor faces a maximum of three years in state prison for possession of child porn, according to Butte County District Attorney, Mike Ramsey.

CHICO, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff s office Monday released information about the arrest of CSU, Chico History Professor Laird McLeod Easton for possession of child pornography.
Investigators say they uncovered evidence that showed Easton was downloading child pornography and on January 20th obtained a warrant for his arrest.
A search warrant was served at Easton s home on Citrus Avenue in Chico on January 21st. Detectives and University Police Department Officers also served a search warrant at Easton s Office on campus.
District Attorney: Chico State professor Laird Easton has not been charged by his office
Butte County Sheriff s Department charged Dr. Laird McLeod Easton, a professor in the history department, with possession of obscene material containing minors on Jan. 21st. We are still trying to speak with the Butte County Sheriff s Department regarding the charges.

UPDATE: Despite the statement from Chico State,
Action News now checked with District Attorney Mike Ramsey and he says they have not received the case from the Butte County Sheriffs Office. The DA also says, Dr. Easton has bailed out, and they are waiting to see if they have enough evidence to charge him.
