A consultation is set to be launched into the future of Laindon Community Centre. At a meeting of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee last night (March 10), councillors agreed to a plan to consult with residents on what the future will hold for the building, which sits on Aston Road. It was agreed that officers were to bring back a report to committee, detailing the findings of the consultation and how future services could be delivered. Basildon Council took over the existing Laindon Community Centre site from the Laindon Community Association after it handed over the keys in November last year.
Danielle, 32, said: “I do think it would be cheaper to revamp the centre rather than rebuild it, but even so a lot of people are concerned that the new building could be smaller than what’s there already. “We’ve all became a family, there’s a gym, bar area, an outdoor space, it can be used for events. “It also really gives a lifeline to the elderly. “We just want answers about what’s next. We hope the current facilities including the bar won’t be replaced, and there is worry we’ll be left with a smaller hall instead.”
