good evening. experts are working with caltrans and are going to want to know why bad bolts got use ntd bay bridge and how they can be repaired in a way that guarantees the bridge is safe. we re live with the story tonight. heather? well, dan, last week local and state transportation brass invited the faa to take a look at how caltrans is dealing within broken rods and plans to fix them, those broken rods are like a bunch more about 2000 in the critical tower base. so far, 32 bolts have broken and there is a plan for them. but there are about 2300 similar bolts elsewhere on the bridge, including 424 at the base of the signature tower. 24-foot rods like these are removed from the bridge, taken to a lab for testing. but those in the tower base are already encased in concrete. so it s unclear thousand how they will be checked. once we have result rz from that, we ll provide that information. caltrans says the 32 failed rods broke because of a phenomenon called hydrogen e
