Nigerian communication teachers and practitioners, under the aegis of Consortium of Nigerian Communication Experts (CoNCE), on Saturday, March 25, listed 14 major challenges with the just-concluded presidential election.
The keynote speaker, Lai Oso, a professor, said the main goal of investigative journalism is the maintenance of public morality by exposing transgression or immoral behaviour and activities.
The Wole Soyinka Center for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), has stated that investigative journalism has exposed corruption, and named and shamed corrupt public officeholders across the country. The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, WSCIJ, Motunrayo Alaka, made this known on Monday, noting that there is a need to amplify works by journalists, especially in an age of digital technology. Alaka stressed that investigative journalism influences the outcome of election results and called for the availability of the media at the subnational level.
Following the physical, psychological, moral and emotional injuries journalists encounter due to exposure to traumatic events in the course of their career, communication scholars have unanimously stressed the need for trauma literacy.
