Laguna Presbyterian Church and Avila’s El Ranchito Mexican restaurant are teaming up with Waymakers Youth Shelter Laguna Beach to provide the shelter’s clients with Taco Tuesday meals through the end of this year.
“We want to show our clients, who are at-risk youth ages 12 to 17, that there are individuals in the community that care about their well-being like we do,” said Chelsea Burch, volunteer coordinator at Waymakers. “As you can imagine, the COVID-19 crisis has made it much more difficult financially for nonprofits like ours, and so we are especially grateful to El Ranchito and Laguna Presbyterian Church for providing the Taco Tuesday meals.”

At the annual Año Nuevo Retreat my husband and I attend in Pacific Grove our group likes to talk about the books we’ve recently read, the issues of the day, and offer predictions for the upcoming year. At December’s gathering on Zoom we considered this question: Would the Black Lives Matter movement, and with it the dialogue about systemic racism, continue its momentum or would it prove to be a blip on the 2020 calendar? The majority agreed that the issue would continue to be in the news and on people’s minds.

Laguna Beach Troop 35 of the Orange County Council of Scouts BSA, and chartered by the Laguna Presbyterian Church, are proud to announce the progression of another scout on his journey to the highest achievement available in Scouts BSA, formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America.
Elliott Leeds completed 15 music stands for his Eagle Scout Project and delivered them to Laguna Beach High School Jazz Band teacher Steven Wade on Dec. 11. The project took months to plan, design, fund, and build. Although Elliott hasn’t quite completed his Eagle Scout Rank yet, he’s getting close. He’s still working on a Merit Badge, Eagle Scout Project paperwork, and a Board of Review hearing.
