for us in d.c. thank you. four days we ve been warned of a likely cyber attack by the russians as the war ramps up in ukraine. now come word that attacks did increase, more than 800% within the first 48 hours of the invasion. that as you might imagine has american businesses and major banks on high alert. with me now is great to see you again. what do you make of that? we were talking that we be surprised if they want and now they are saying that it went up 800% in the 48 hours after the invasion. thank you. as we mentioned last night, this is often something where it s not a leading indicator that pops up immediately to tell us. it s always a lagging indicator, the actual discovery of the attack. there is no surprise in our industry, and our community, that there has been an increase in a take a little time to discover and become public.
dropped dramatically. still not, look, 134,000 still puts it, as you can see here, still puts it closer to our previous highs than our previous lows, but come on, when you see where we came from, we are dropping and dropping fast. when you look at deaths, this is obviously more of a lagging indicator, you can see still an uncomfortably high number, 2,000 a day. this is starting to now drop pretty quickly here. we should start to see these numbers continue to come down. and all of this is making the public feel a bit more comfortable with the risks of covid. from january to february, fears of severe health risk, 34% of all adults in january. february it s down to 22%. it s starting to start to even out as you can see. these drops here, the differences not as wide as they once were. as you can see here, this is a country that is starting to get
that means it s a lagging indicator. we re already probably weeks or in this case months behind in this particular case, it s believed that it was a known vulnerability that has been unpaid for some time that was actually exploited in any of these cases. so by the time it publicly disclosed, it s like coming to the crime scene and trying to put things together after the fact. yeah, my colleague has a question for you as well. yeah, eric, i m interested. it seems to me that we have been warning about cyberattacks for so many years. we had a u.s. government official in fact, a couple of years ago say the next pearl harbor will be a cyber attack. why do we always seem to be behind these russian hackers? are they that much more clever at this than we are? jonathan, it s an excellent question. and really when you when you really pull the camera back and look the past 15 years it was 15 years ago almost no. and it was deputy secretary of defense gordon england who called some of the top tier
olympics on bars, and she got a bronze on the beam. she wanted to avenge both of those things. she couldn t do the other ones, but she came back and did it on the beam. it s amazing she went out and competed with everything she s dealing with now. she is a testament to strength. it doesn t mean you have to push yourself. if it was right for her, it s great to see. her taking care of herself first is the strongest position in the olympics. florida absolutely getting hit hard right now, and nobody wants to see that, but it is a laboratory right now for what the variant can do. they have four variants there that are spreading. and how measures in response will matter, especially their pushing back against the vaccine and now pushing back against masks. even as the state just broke its own record for hospitalizations for the third straight day. remember, hospitalizations, that s a lagging indicator. that means you had so many cases
the beam. she is a testament to strength. it doesn t mean you have to push yourself. if it was right for her, it s great to see. but she took a stronger stand than i ve seen from anyone in the olympics. florida absolutely getting hit hard right now, and nobody wants to see that, but it is a laboratory right now for what the variant can do. they have four variants there that are spreading. and how measures in response will matter, especially their pushing back against the vaccine and now pushing back against masks. even as the state just broke its own record for hospitalizations for the third straight day. remember, hospitalizations, that s a lagging indicator. that means you had so many cases that you got that kind of boost of people who were sick enough to go to the hospital. now, its vaccination rate, which was never that high, is falling. the florida governor himself says this. these innovations have failed
