Tributes are pouring in for a Thibodaux man who died after an oilfield boat capsized Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office identified the man Thursday as 63-year-old David Ledet, who was the captain of the Seacor Power, a liftboat that overturned Tuesday in hurricane-force winds about 8 miles south of Port Fourchon.
As of late Friday afternoon, six people had been rescued, all of them Tuesday, two had been confirmed dead and 11 were still missing.
Joshua Segura said he’s known Ledet since he began working with him in the oilfield in 2006.
“David was an awesome guy,” the Lafayette resident said. “He had been around boats all his life and used to tell stories about shrimping and the old days of the oilfield. I would have trusted him with my life, and he was one of the most respected captains in the whole company. He had a passion for his family, his job and classic cars.”
