Angry youth beat up 2 humanitarian workers in Torit over jobs Some angry youth from the Monyiemiji Forum beat up two humanitarian workers in Torit following a meeting with the Eastern Equatoria State government and the head of NGOs over employment.  Last month, the Monyiemiji Forum, composed of youth from Torit, Ikotos, and Lopit in Lafon County petitioned the government demanding just employment in the NGOs sector. This prompted the state government to form a committee to find a solution to the complaints.  The Mayor of Torit municipal council, Joseph Aye Joseph Oswaha, told Radio Tamazuj that the youth beat the two aid workers after the meeting held at Torit SPLM secretariat hall on Wednesday.

Catholic priest attacked, robbed in Lafon, E. Equatoria A catholic priest of the Diocese of Torit, Fr. Lucius Izama, who also doubles as the diocesan vocation director was last week attacked and robbed by gunmen on his way to Ibonni Parish in Lafon County, Eastern Equatoria State. The priest was traveling to Ibonni with 15 seminarians and other passengers when they were waylaid. Their belongings, including bags, food items, and cash amounting to over 100,000 SSP were taken by the armed robbers. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj over the weekend in Torit town, Fr. Izama explained that the passengers asked him to speed up after realizing some armed men intended to shoot at them. He said they met a group of approximately 20 armed men who ordered all passengers out of the vehicle.

[Photo: UNMISS] G4S Global, a company contracted by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) has suspended activities along the Torit-Lafon road in Eastern Equatoria State due to insecurity in the area.  Earlier this month, vehicles belonging to G4S Global came under attack along the Oudo-Loronyo-Longiro road by a group of gunmen who looted all their food and assaulted the workers.  This prompted Rwandan peacekeepers from the UNMISS Torit field office to come to their rescue and evacuate 20 workers from the Longiro area where they were based.
