Police Minister Bheki Cele hailed the country s crime fighting efforts on Friday when he released the quarterly crime statistics for the period from 1 January to the end of March.

Cele said he believes the quarter s figures are an indication that some of the policing shortcomings have been addressed.
But the murder rate has been slow to respond to Cele s efforts, with close to 5000 people killed in the first three months of 2021.
The top four causative factors of these murders still remain arguments, robberies, both residential and non-residential and street robberies, mob justice and gang-related incidents, said Cele.

Panyaza Lesufi visited the Pretoria principal who was carried out of her office by parents earlier this week.
A forensic investigation into the school affairs will be conducted.
The injured principal, who fell off her chair, was booked off for seven days.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi on Friday ordered that a forensic investigation be conducted into the affairs of Laerskool Theresapark.
On Thursday, parents confronted principal Dorothy Mabaso and carried her out of her office while she was still seated. They accused her of bullying teachers and mismanagement of school funds.

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi on Friday said the violent and disruptive behaviour displayed by some parents at Laerskool Theresapark in Pretoria was unacceptable.
Lesufi has condemned a video that has been widely shared on social media where the school principal is seen being violently removed from her office, allegedly by a group of parents.

Pretoria - The police were called to Laerskool Theresapark this morning as frustrated parents attempted to chase away the school principal for allegedly abusing other educators and running the school into financial ruin.
A video taken by one of the parents shows angry parents carrying the school principal with her office chair out of the administration office before she falls off the chair.
Parents are still outside waiting for officials from the Intervention Unit of the Department of Education who are said to be on the way to deal with the issue and address the parents who demand answers and feedback today.

The Gauteng education department has launched an investigation into a fracas between the principal and the school governing body at Laerskool Theresapark.
This follows the widespread circulation of a video on social media on Thursday, in which the principal of the school was violently thrown out of her office, allegedly by a group of parents.
