KMC clears 80pc of storm water drain choking points

July 14, 2021 The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) claims to have cleared almost 80 per cent of the 169 choking points of different storm water drains across the city. “Pumps have been installed at Sharea Faisal. Drainage machinery has been handed over to technical officers. Action will be taken against those obstructing manholes or drains in the city. It is a criminal act,” said KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed on Tuesday. He was briefing media representatives at the Rosy Warden Headquarters about the existing dewatering pumps, machinery and vehicle arrangements. He also visited various parts of the city. Senior Director Coordination Khalid Khan, Director General Works Shabih Ul Hasnain Zaidi, Senior Director Municipal Services SM Taha, Director Noman Arshad, Chief Engineer Electrical Abbas Shah, Director City Wardens Raja Rustam and other officers were also present on the occasion.

Unexpected monsoon shower causes agony to citizens with power cuts, inundated roads July 13, 2021 An unexpected spell of monsoon rain on early Monday morning in Karachi surprised both the citizens as well as weather pundits as most of the city areas received light to moderate showers, resulting in inundation of low-lying areas, accumulation of water on major roads and power cuts in many areas of the city. The rain started around 7am in most of the areas on Monday morning. Around three to four millimetres (mm) of rain was recorded in the first spell except for Gulshan-e-Hadeed where 17 mm was recorded. The intermittent rain continued till noon, during which different areas received 20 to 35mm of rainfall, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) officials said.
