MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – GPS and Baylor both won their semifinal games in the DII-AA state softball tournament at the Starplex Field No. 3 Wednesday morning while Silverdale bounced back from a loss on Tuesday to defeat Jackson Christian in an early game Wednesday.
GPS built an 8-1 lead and had to hang on in winning 8-6 over St. Benedict while Baylor got an outstanding pitching performance from Ace Sellers en route to a 5-0 victory over Chattanooga Christian.

The Silverdale Lady Seahawks have been down this road before.
This talented softball team won a state title in 2018 and are hoping to get another shot next week in Murfreesboro, but they will have to win one more game at home to get that opportunity.
Facing the Goodpasture Lady Cougars on Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Division II, Class A state tournament, it was a best two-of-three games with the winner advancing and the loser planning their summer vacation.

The Lady Seahawks had to go to the “if necessary” game against Knoxville Grace Wednesday in the East Region championship of Division II-A but pitcher Katie Willoughby and her Silverdale teammates did what was necessary and overcame a four error game to defeat the Lady Rams, 8-4.
Willoughby scattered seven hits and struck out six over seven innings to give the ‘hawks the top seed out of the East heading into the first round of the state playoffs. Meanwhile, her teammates banged out 10 hits and Silverdale, the 2018 DII-A state champions, receives a bye and will be at home on May 19

It’s a Senior Day celebration that 18-year-old Breanna Sexton will never forget.
They honored four young ladies who are nearing the end of their high school softball career at Silverdale Baptist Academy on Saturday afternoon, but it was Sexton who might have the most positive memory after slugging the game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel her team to victory.

Monday’s night’s finish at East Hamilton had more drama than the closing act of Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” as the Lady Canes’ Dani Wasserstrom provided the fireworks her team needed to take a 2-1 walk-off win over District 5AAA rival Walker Valley.
With the score tied in the bottom of the seventh and her sister Nicole perched atop third base, Wasserstrom stroked a single into right field off the first pitch of her at bat allowing the winning run to cross the plate. The Lady Mustangs had tied the contest in the top half of the final stanza after trailing 1-0 since the first inning.
