Anna fled the bombs in the port city of Odesa, leaving behind her mother, brother and cat. She is now in Romania and being helped by CARE International, a charity funded by Daily Mail readers.
They will arrive exhausted and possibly traumatised. But as thousands of Ukrainians reach the safety of Britain, they will be met with compassion and practical help.
