A total of 11 area players were selected to the Missouri High School Volleyball Coaches Association all-state team earlier this month. The Jefferson City Lady Jays and the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons each had three all-state honorees. Helias, California, Eldon, Southern Boone and Versailles each had one player named to the all-state team.
It was a long, draining, grueling day of volleyball for the Jefferson City Lady Jays. What mattered most was it ended with everyone smiling. Jefferson City tied its best state finish in program history Thursday, defeating the St. Michael the Archangel Guardians 23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 in the Class 4 third-place match at the Show Me Center.
The Jefferson City Lady Jays are making sure they relish this experience. The Lady Jays open their first Final Four since 2000 at noon today against the St. Pius X: Festus Lancers at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, and while they have been attacking preparations accordingly, they want to make sure they realize how special it is to be in this position.

After the Jefferson City Lady Jays had their season end on their home floor in each of the past two seasons, there was no way they were letting it happen again. Jefferson City was able to accomplish that goal Saturday against the Webb City Lady Cardinals, as they battled back from two separate one-set deficits to force a fifth set and pick up a 19-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13 victory in the Class 4 quarterfinals at Fleming Fieldhouse.
