The Helias Lady Crusaders took advantage of their opportunities and it made a big difference Wednesday night. The Lady Crusaders scored five runs with two outs while the Jefferson City Lady Jays stranded nine baserunners, helping Helias run away with a 9-2 victory in Central Missouri Activities Conference play at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex.
The Helias Lady Crusaders got started quickly in their home opener. The Lady Crusaders jumped ahead 13-2 to open the match at Rackers Fieldhouse and kept the momentum throughout Tuesday night on the way to a 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 sweep of the Fatima Lady Comets.
Tauny Gore was glad to be back at the state championships. And very happy to finish back on the medals podium. Gore, a Helias senior, capped her high-school track career Friday with a third-place finish in the Class 4 girls long jump at Adkins Stadium.
If Thursday night’s match happens to be the last one at home for the Helias Lady Crusaders’ group of seven seniors, Dani Buker made it one to remember. Buker assisted on the first two goals of the match against the Hickman Kewpies and iced the contest with a late goal, ending the Lady Crusaders’ regular season with a 3-1 victory in Central Missouri Activities Conference play at the Crusader Athletic Complex.
