Dark Side of NH History Featured in Documentary on Amazon Prime
My goodness, the things you see on Netflix when you are just searching for something to numb out your mind.
This past weekend, I was looking for just such a thing and found His Name is Bob, on Amazon Prime. I really like documentaries and this one looked rather intriguing. It s about a man named Bob who definitely has some developmental disabilities living in Texas. As it turns out, he comes from, you guessed it, New Hampshire. Everything comes back to the 603, I swear.
Bob and his Mother lived in NH and you find out early in the film, she had abandoned him when he was 8 years old at the Laconia State School in the Lakes Region. The school was once known as the New Hampshire School for Feeble Minded and has a horrible history. I grew up in Nashua and I remember hearing stories of the Laconia School when I was growing up. I think it was my Mother who thought it was terrible that people were sent up
Letter: Rep. Johnson should resign
Published: 12/20/2020 12:01:28 AM
I am mortified that state Rep. Dawn Johnson is retweeting anti-Semitic, racist, anti-democratic “cartoons” and inflammatory sentiments from a leading neo-Nazi organization. Rep. Johnson, a Republican from Laconia, distributed the highly offensive material last week. I am just as mortified that the leadership of her Republican Party has not risen up and demanded that she resign from her seat. According to the
Laconia Daily Sun, Rep. Gregg Hough, R-Laconia, said that she “did absolutely nothing wrong.” To make matters even worse, Johnson is also a member of the Laconia School Board.
Have we not yet learned as a human community that bigotry and hatred, falsehoods and incitement have no place in our society. The fruits of intolerance and scapegoating are toxic. New Hampshire must say no.
Rep. Cushing s bid to target hate speech blocked in NH House
By Holly Ramer
CONCORD The New Hampshire House Rules Committee on Wednesday blocked the introduction of late legislation targeting a newly elected Republican lawmaker who recently shared content from a neo-Nazi website on social media.
Rep. Dawn Johnson, of Laconia, last week posted a link on Twitter to a Daily Stormer article that many Democrats and Republican Gov. Chris Sununu criticized as racist and anti-Semitic. Without saying whether she agreed with the content of the article, Johnson later apologized and said she removed the link as it came from a source I do not agree with.
