Meanwhile, west of the city, Canmore RCMP issued a warning at 2:30 a.m. Thursday that blowing snow is causing visibility and travel issues on Hwy 1 between the Kananaskis River and Dead Man’s Flats. They are also urging travellers to only drive if necessary.
Alberta’s highway status map at 511.alberta.ca reported Hwy 1 was partially covered with snow and ice between Lac des Arcs and the Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
The highway was also closed from the B.C. border to Lake Louise on Thursday afternoon due to a collision.
