Kota Kinabalu: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) intercepted 16 China s People’s Liberation Army - Air Force (PLAAF) aircraft entering the airspace of the Malaysian Maritime Zone (ZMM), Kota Kinabalu Flight Information Region (KKFIR) and approaching the national airspace on Monday, said its chief.
General Datuk Sri Ackbal Andul Samad, in a statement on Tuesday, said that Hawk 208 fighter jets from the 6th Squadron of the Labuan Air Base were launched to intercept the aircraft as they were found to be crossing the Kota Kinabalu border with several attempts to direct them to contact KK FIR traffic control not complied with.
