Tras años de demoras, Rusia lanzó el miércoles un módulo científico a la Estación Espacial Internacional con el objeto de ampliar el espacio para los experimentos científicos y para la tripulación. Un cohete Proton-M con el módulo Nauka despegó a la hora prevista de 7.58 pm local (1458 GMT) de la instalación de lanzamientos rusa en Baikonur, Kazajistán.

(Image credit: NASA TV) After arriving at the space station, the spacecraft will dock with the station s Poisk module, located on the station s Russian segment, where it will spend the next five months.  After this leg of its mission, in October, the Progress capsule is set to perform an automated undocking and relocation to Russia s upcoming Nauka Multipurpose Laboratory Module that is scheduled to launch to space this upcoming July. Nauka is named for the Russian word for science.

Russia’s ISS Progress 78 resupply ship blasted off today at 7:27pm ET and will dock to the station on Thursday at 9:03pm.
