A total of $19.3 million in Lost Wage Assistance and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance payments were made out to claimants in the latest batch of payouts, down from upwards of $25 million in the payout batch prior, Department of Labor Director Dave Dell’Isola said Tuesday.
The agency is still confirming and running the numbers, but has been seeing an anecdotal decrease in claimants as individuals slowly but surely return to work, according to Dell’Isola.
“As the island opens up, more people are increasing their reduced hours and other people are also being called back to their work. Businesses are starting to open up, so we’ll start seeing hopefully a trend of a decline,” Dell’Issola said.
