The other four honorees include Patsy Takemoto Mink, the first woman of color to serve in Congress; Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, a Civil War surgeon and suffragist; Pauli Murray, a civil rights activist and lawyer; and Zitkala-Ša a voting rights activist
For her impact on Latin music internationally, Celia Cruz will be minted on the U.S. quarter as a part of the U.S. Mint’s American Women Quarters Program.
Ms. Cruz, a Cuban American singer known as the Queen of Salsa, was described by the U.S. Mint as “one of the most popular Latin artists of the 20th century.”
