The announcement comes on the same day that Dr. Paul Simon, science officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH), confirmed that county health officials would continue to focus on administering second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine into the coming week.
“Right now, as more vaccine comes into L.A. County, our priority is to provide second doses to the people who are ready for them next week,” Simon told reporters Friday. “While the supply of doses, including first doses, are very limited at this time, it is our hope that we will see larger allocations in the near future.”
On Friday, LADPH Science Officer Paul Simon announced that an estimated 1,051,229 doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered across the county.
“Because more people are being vaccinated we will be watching very closely to assess progress in ensuring equitable distribution of the vaccine,” Simon said at the time. “We already have a great deal of concern about people with more resources having better access to the vaccine either because of their access to technology and information, their ability to spend more time getting an appointment or their ability to travel to other areas of the county.”
Just under 11% of all Los Angeles County residents aged 16 and over have received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose as of Friday, while only 2.6% of people in that same group had been fully vaccinated, according to Simon.
How To Register For A COVID-19 Vaccine In Los Angeles County
With the first phase of vaccinations underway in California, KHTS has made an easy step-by-step guide to show how to register for a vaccination appointment in L.A. County.
As we approach the process of country-wide vaccination, the phasing process has allowed those most at risk to get the vaccinations first. Phase 1A began with vaccinating healthcare workers and those in the medical field, and Phase 1B has finally begun. This allows those 65 and older to make a vaccination appointment.
