Leon Apping, the man charged with the murder of Gasparillo businessman Anand Maharaj, was expected to appear virtually before a San Fernando magistrate on Friday, the day of Maharaj s funeral.
On Thursday evening, acting deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Joan Honore-Paul instructed police to charge the underwater welder, 29, with murder.
Under the guidance of legal officer Kyrn Lewis, ASP Figaro of the Homicide Bureau Region III supervised the investigations. Cpl Bynoe laid the charge.

Princes Town man, 59, charged with murdering common-law wife
The mother of two was beaten to death at a house at Buen Intento Road, Princes Town. -
A 59-year-old labourer is expected to face a Princes Town magistrate on Monday charged with the murder of his common-law wife Karen Rauseo-Karim.
Police said the accused found Rauseo-Karim’s body on Tuesday evening in a rented house at Buen Intento Road in Princes Town. They had moved into the apartment less than 24 hours earlier. Rauseo-Karim, 53, previously lived at Ramdhanie Trace, Indian Walk in Moruga. She had been beaten.
The accused, of Princes Town, reported that he found the body on the floor near the kitchen after returning home from work in Claxton Bay.
