Christmas will be celebrated by some Erie-area families on Thursday.
A Christmas Eve service was held Wednesday evening at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity, 247 E. Front St. The service began at 6 p.m. and was expected to continue past midnight, when worshippers then celebrated with a feast.
Kyra Gregoroff held her one-year-old son Jon near a small room at the back of the church as hymns were sung and prayers recited. We ll stay past midnight, said Gregoroff, 25. We ll spread out blankets for the young ones when they get sleepy. That s what we did when I was a little girl, in this same church.
