VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Despite outshooting Maryland 10-6 and holding a 10-2 edge in penalty corners, the Ohio State field hockey team fell 2-0 to the Terrapins on Friday afternoon at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. The Buckeyes are 0-2 in the season while Maryland improves to 2-1.
The Buckeyes had an edge in nearly every statistical category, generating more offense and more penalty corners but failing to put one past Terrapin goalkeeper Noelle Frost.
Maryland scored just 3:54 into the first quarter when Kyler Greenwalt received a feed from Brooke DeBerdine and put one in from in front of the goal. That early 1-0 Terrapin lead would hold up for the next 55 minutes until Riley Donnelly scored on a penalty stroke with 57 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to make the score 2-0.
