“They did a beautiful job and I have no regrets,” Evans said.
The 83-year-old Monticello resident was the first patient at IU Health Arnett Hospital to receive a valve replacement from new technology the hospital recently acquired, a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) program. His surgery took place a little over a month ago, Feb. 9.
He received the surgery “just in time,” as Evans said as his heart “was in bad shape.”
“They did one of the best jobs and I’d recommend it to anyone,” he said.
TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat patients with aortic stenosis, or a narrowing of the heart’s aortic valve that can lead to symptoms like shortness of breath, lightheadedness, fatigue or a shortened lifespan, according to the hospital.
