LANSDALE — District officials have had a busy three weeks since a reported fight at North Penn High School prompted another round of talks about race, religion, and how to
LANSDALEÂ â Just days after hearing of a growing deficit in the district s extended school care program, North Penn School Board voted against a proposed fee hike. We need to lower as many obstacles as possible for the community to access the services so desperately needed to catch up after the pandemic crisis, said board member Jonathan Kassa.
On Tuesday night the school board s finance committee heard details of a massive deficit for the district extended care department, which provides professional child care to students outside of school hours. Prior to the pandemic, that department had a roughly $956,000 surplus, but the shutdown of schools and subsequent work-from-home environment over the past year caused enrollment to plummet by more than 500 students, from 839 to 317Â according to district staff, resulting in a $720,000 deficit for the current year.Â
LANSDALEÂ â A new policy is in the works that aims to protect North Penn students who may be victims of assaults by fellow students.
The school board s policy committee has voted ahead new rules regarding discipline for students adjudicated or convicted of sexual assault. It adds requirements for schools to take certain action, if we become aware of a circumstance in which a student who has been convicted, or adjudicated, of sexual assault, and the victim of that assault is a student within the school district, said solicitor Kyle Somers.

Minerva First Christian Church has celebrated 55 young men as Eagle Scouts over the 83 years it has sponsored a troop.
The year 2021 has been much different.
The church’s Boy Scout Troop 150 this year has celebrated four Eagle Scouts. It is the most to receive the distinction in one year since the troop’s beginnings in 1938.
“This is a remarkable achievement in a normal time, but with a year of COVID restrictions, it lifted the troop to a higher level of difficulty to complete all of the rank requirements and complete the Eagle Scout Service Project,” Scoutmaster Dan Toalston said in a news release.
The eight other members of the Upper Perkiomen School Board joined the more than 4,600 people who have signed a petition calling for Raeann Hofkin to resign from the school board.
With the exception of board member Keith McCarrick, who said at the start of the meeting he would not take a position on Hofkin s retweeting of transphobic memes about Dr. Rachel Levine, all other board members condemned her actions during Thursday night s school board meeting.
Once every board member had spoken and asked Hofkin to resign, McCarrick said, he too, is calling on Hofkin to resign.
