a search for a gunman is going on now in san jose. santa clara county sheriff s deputies have set up a perimeter near moorpark at saratoga. they say that the suspect was involved in a vehicle stop earlier this morning. he took off on foot and is believed to be hiding in an apartment complex in the area. deputies are not letting anyone into this area until the gunman has been found. we have a crew on the way and we ll have updates throughout the morning as we get them. it is the closest finish in the history of iowa s presidential caucus. former bay state governor mitt romney edging out former pennsylvania senator rick santorum by 8 votes. unbelievable. as susan mcginnis reports this could be the beginning of the end for a couple of the other candidates. reporter: mitt romney barely squeezed out a win in iowa with rick santorum trailing just eight votes behind. we re going to change the white house and get america back on track. deputies attempted to make a car stop for just a regular vehicle infraction. the suspect didn t stop right away, actually drove slowly for a couple of blocks, finally coming to a complete stop. that s the when the driver foot bailed and started the search. reporter: why were they pulling him over. a minor vehicle infraction type stuff, i believe tinted windows or something like thats what the original reason for the stop. reporter: original reports indicate that he was armed. have you found a weapon? was he armed in the first place? there was mention of that but that s unconfirmed. we have not located any weapons or firearms or anything like that. reporter: were they of the residents threatened by this whole manhunt? no, they weren t. we have everybody in custody including the two occupants. reporter: you wouldn t be able to tell us his name or his description of the suspect? we don t have him identified and i don t even have a description of him at this point.

joe vazquez, cbs 5. they were breaking down doors, pushing and shoving at malls and stores around the bay area. in one case a report of gunfire. it was all over the last nike air jordans. christin ayers shows us how far some people were willing to go to make sure they didn t walk home empty-handed. we heard gunfire at one mall as people fought their way into stores looking for a special edition shoe. reporter: the scene repeated itself the day before christmas eve all over the country, mayhem at the mall. [ screaming and cursing ] reporter: shoppers bum rushing stores from fairfield to indianapolis and north carolina. at richmond s hilltop mall roughly 2,000 shoppers lined up and broke down in a frenzy to buy a pair of sneakers. but not just any pair. hey, they are jordans. reporter: retro air jordans going for $180 apiece. but before the doors could open. i didn t know, we heard a pop and there was like cops all over the floor like guarding people. so the cops
