WE STILL HAVE CONCERNS : Years later, Lodi supervisor looks back at flood, post-pandemic future

Years Of Recovery Since Devastating, Historic Flood If not for a global pandemic in 2020 the most-memorable catastrophic event that residents of Lodi might recall is the historic flood of August 2018. It was a devastating day that came without warning- and left residents at Lodi Point reeling as more than 10 inches of rain fell in a span of hours. The nearby town of Hector recorded more than 11.5 inches of rain officially in the same devastating storm. Homes, campers, cars, and even roads were washed away leaving little behind. Work has been underway for more than two years, but it’s far from over, according to Lodi Town Supervisor Kyle Barnhart.

The town will convert the existing structure, including an expansion to accommodate all town hall functions. “We are very excited to have this opportunity to build toward the future of Lodi with a new town hall. The gracious support from our community partners has helped this project realize significant cost savings for Lodi taxpayers and ensures the continued operation of the Lodi Food4All Pantry, which has fed hundreds of families during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purchase of this property is a win-win for our local government and all of the residents it serves,” said Kyle Barnhart, Lodi Town Supervisor.

Sales tax sharing up for debate again in Seneca County

Fingerlakes1.com Menu Sharing sales tax is once again up for debate in Seneca County. A special committee has been re-identified to study the matter, which has been debated several times over the last 4-5 years. Chairman Bob Hayssen appointed supervisors Kyle Barnhart, Cindy Lorenzetti, Paul Kronenwetter, Michael Reynolds and Don Trout to the committee. In the past, the supervisors have considered sharing a percentage of sales tax with towns. The topic came up at the February 23 meeting by Barnhart, who said that while a committee was authorized- no final recommendation had been made in years. It’s unclear how soon this might come to fruition. But the committee is expected to begin meeting effective immediately.

Seneca County has issued a Request for Proposals for the purchase and redevelopment of a 58-acre parcel on Keady Road in Lodi. The parcel is currently in county ownership. “The Keady Road property is an untapped resource in the Town of Lodi and I am hopeful that proposals will come forward that will realize its full potential,” Lodi Town Supervisor Kyle Barnhart said. “Returning the property to private ownership and its contribution to our tax base and local economy will be in the best interest of the Town and the County provided it is a proposal that respects the environment and neighboring properties.”
