A municipal podcast has sparked online outrage including a petition but Kenora officials say this podcast will allow the public to get a peek behind the curtains at city hall.
The project first came to light a few weeks ago when the city approved the development of a local podcast aimed at discussing important municipal and strengthen Kenora’s various industries. If all goes to plan, the show will begin airing sometime later this summer.

Councillors with the City of Kenora have approved just over $22,000 in spending to create a podcast that focuses on municipal issues.
During a virtual Council meeting earlier this week, city councillors approved a $22,565 agreement with consultant producer Kim Kaschor of Winnipeg to develop the podcast, noting the city is hoping to enhance its communication and relationship with the community.

Mayor Dan Reynard says the podcast will allow them to control the message they send out.
“The goal is to get better information to the public,” says Renyard, “In this day and age social media sometimes has a way of flamming misinformation. our goal is to control what goes out and give people the best information available.”
He explains that the idea was first brought to them by their new CAO Kyle Attanasio.
“It’s so important to try and get more information…the proper information to our residents, taxpayers and visitors. The podcast will allow us to create information sessions that we can send out.”
