Results from 23 polling stations in Kampala did not make it to the Electoral Commission’s final tally sheet after their declaration forms disappeared before reaching tally centre in Kyambogo.
The said polling stations account for 22,103 registered voters and are part of the 83 stations across the country whose results were nullified by the EC. The highest number of these were from Kawempe North. According to data obtained from the EC, results from 13 polling stations in this division were never captured. On the same list are six polling stations from Kawempe South and four from Rubaga South electoral areas.

Our view:
Given the political puzzle in the country, inter alia, the allegations of vote rigging at almost all levels of the elections, nerves need to be calmed and this can only happen when all sides are satisfied with the outcome, whatever it is.

On January 14, the country went to the polls where presidential and parliamentary elections were held. Up to February 3, the Electoral Commission will still be conducting elections of different interest groups. While the President in his acceptance speech on January 16 noted that this could have been the most cheat-free election, indications on ground seem to show the contrary.

The police and the army have arrested four military guards of State minister of Water Ronald Kibuule on allegations of putting at gunpoint police officers before taking away their guns and ballot boxes they were protecting at Kyampisi Sub-county in Mukono District on January 14.
