Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) chief whip Narend Singh has hailed former KwaZulu-Natal premier Frank Mdlalose as an astute man.

He was the first premier of KwaZulu-Natal when South Africa gained democracy and served from 1994 to 1997.
I was very saddened to hear the passing of the first premier of KwaZulu-Natal Dr Frank Mdlalose.
I had the pleasure of joining the party in 1992 when he was the national chairperson. He appointed me when he was premier in 1997 as the MEC in KwaZulu-Natal.
Singh has praised him as a unifier between the African National Congress (ANC) and Inkatha Freedom Party during apartheid.
