It was the first election (at least in the 4th republic) where the incumbent president is contested by a former president who lost against the incumbent with over a million votes. Though a lot of people, including many Civil Society Organizations (CSO s), cautioned against the compilation of a new voter register with some saying it is mathematically impossible for the EC to compile a credible register given the remaining time to the election and the legal requirements the EC will have to meet. The EC still went ahead defying all odds against covid-19 and its restriction to compile what is touted by some including the incumbent president as arguably the most credible register in the history of Ghana.
