Sir: Ilorin long ago came to terms with its identity. As a united community forged by the religion of Islam from diverse ethnic groups, Yoruba, Fulani, Hausa, Gobir, Kanuri, Gwari, Nupe, Barba and Kamberi; disturbed only by those who cannot come to terms with the facts of history. If the harmony that exists among these ethnic groups is well replicated in this country, Nigeria would have been a great place.
The hijab case is indeed the Supreme Court, on appeal by the Kwara State Chapter of CAN. Judgement at both the trial court and the Appeal Court favoured government position that wearing hijab is an exercise of freedom of religion or words to that effect. The take-over of mission schools in the 1970s affected these institutions across the whole country, not just the North. From 2013, the case which had gone to the lower court that year went to appeal in 2016 and is before the Supreme Court, according to the chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Paul Olawoore.

This great jurist’s voyage into Western education started in 1943 at the instance of the late Daudu Ballah, Alhaji Saidu Alao Omo-Oloni. It was Omo-Oloni, who insisted on enrolling him as one of the pioneer pupils of the then Ballah Elementary School (now Ballah LGEA School) Ballah, in the present-day Asa Local Council of Kwara State between 1943 and 1947. Orire did very well at Elementary School and became a pride to the founding father of the school, Alhaji Saidu Omo Oloni.
