He and his canoe sprint partner Max Brown have been selected to compete in the men s K2 1000 race.
Kurtis is the younger brother of Kayla Imrie, who made her Olympic debut in Rio 2016 in the women s K4 boat.
Although the New Zealand women s canoe sprint team for Tokyo is yet to be selected, Imrie says it would be a big achievement for his family.
