State police have released more details about two Interstate 83 crashes on Sunday that claimed the life of Patrick E. Clafferty, who was livestreaming his motorcycle ride when he wrecked.
Clafferty, 26, of York Township died at the scene. The two crashes happened after 4 p.m. on I-83 North near the Leader Heights interchange (Exit 14).
State police say Clafferty was accelerating to a high rate of speed in the passing lane when his handle bars started to wobble. He lost control of his Harley-Davidson, was thrown from the motorcycle, and fell onto the highway.
A multi-vehicle, chain-reaction crash followed, as the driver of an SUV, Andrew Greenleaf, 51, of Kutztown, Pa., braked to avoid hitting Clafferty, who was lying motionless on the interstate, state police said.
