MultiCare Health System announced Wednesday that they had reached an agreement with an affiliate of LifePoint Health to acquire an ownership interest in Capital Health Center in Olympia.
MultiCare hopes that the acquisition of the 107 bed hospital will help them expand their ability to meet the health care needs of the people of the Puget Sound Region. Capital Health Center, which will be renamed to MultiCare Capital Health Center, will join MultiCare’s hospital and clinic network.
MultiCare is the largest community-based locally governed health care system in the state of Washington. The MultiCare network includes 10 hospitals, including Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, and also includes primary, specialty, and urgent care systems.

Sydney Kurle: The Federal government recently passed a $900 billion stimulus package, however this package lacked specified funding for state and local governments. What are your thoughts or plans to help fund these governments that will most likely be experiencing a budget shortfall?

In a one-day session called to address several pandemic and wildfire related crises, lawmakers were also able to pass protections for schools and to bolster bars and restaurants’ abilities to make money during the current COVID-19 guidelines.
“For the Oregonians who are worried about whether or not they will have a safe place to call home, for the independent restaurant owners who are working to keep their doors open, for the individuals in desperate need of support during the multitude of crises we face, today’s special session will hopefully provide some measure of relief,” said House Majority Leader Barbara Smith Warner.

With staffing shortages and less than 2% of beds available in Intensive Care Units (ICU), hospitals in California are struggling to come up with strategies to combat the COVID-19 surge.
California saw over 32,000 new cases reported today and over 18,000 people currently hospitalized, the state is currently at more than double its previous peak, which was in July. There is no end in sight with current CDC projections seeing this surge continue into January.
While hospital staff and at-risk communities are receiving the first round of the vaccine roll-out, the vaccine will not be available to the general public for months. Hospitals in Southern California and the state in general are grappling with how to handle the surge.
