Coronavirus: ARCC tightens regulations on safety protocols to help stop spread

Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, Simon Osei-Mensah The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) would soon mandate the police to conduct snap checks on commercial vehicles with the view to apprehending those on board without nose masks. “It is an offence to get on board a commercial vehicle without a nose mask,” Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, the Minister-designate for the Region, cautioned. He advised commercial drivers not to pick passengers who were not wearing their nose masks, adding that acting contrary to the directives could come with punitive measures against offenders. “We must be disciplined and adhere to the safety protocols as instituted by the government,” the Minister-designate told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Kumasi, on the sidelines of the inauguration of some educational projects.

Fight Against COVID-19 Is Shared Responsibility - MCE

  The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has tasked Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to enforce strictly the COVID-19 safety protocols at all levels of their working places. Mr Osei Assibey-Antwi, Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said this must not be compromised as negligence on the part of the people could be devastating for the society. “Data from our health facilities related to the increasing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths, especially among the youth, should serve as a warning to all and sundry,” he noted. Citing the government’s recent directives and restrictions to mitigate the spread of the pandemic, which had so far resulted in over 400 deaths, the MCE pointed out that being law-abiding was the only remedy to save the nation from a calamity.
