PBI to investigate 16 cases filed over Hefazat mayhem
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been assigned to investigate 16 cases filed over the violence carried out by Hefazat-e Islam in different parts of the country.
PBI chief DIG Banaj Kumar Majumder confirmed the matter on Thursday.
He said the PBI will investigate 16 cases filed on March 26 and next some days.
The cases have been filed in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj and Manikganj.
Officials concerned have already started working to identify those involved in the violent activities, said DIG Banaj Kumar.

The firm said in a statement on Thursday that the engineers of its Fridge Research and Development Department has released the non-frost 6A9 model of the fridge based on Internet of Things or IoT technologies on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
“In Bangladesh, only Walton has been manufacturing IoT-based smart fridge and thus this is a great milestone not only just for Walton but also for the local engineers as well as Bangladesh,” the statement said.

Dhaka, April 17 : Twenty-four more people have been arrested in Bangladesh in connection with the massacre by the militants of the militant outfit Hefazat-e-Islam. So far, 54 cases have been filed and 261 militants have been arrested over the violence.
On March 27, at least five persons were killed and around 50 others, including 25 policemen, injured in attack by the Hefazat militants and clashes between members of the law enforcement agencies and the militants at Nandanpur in Sadar upazila.
Vandalism by the militant outfit Hefazat-e-Islam was carried out in Brahmanbaria from March 26 to 31 March. The arrests were made from different parts of the district, according to the special branch of Brahmanbaria district police on Friday.
