Eight Christians were killed and a church was burned down on May 19 during an attack by gunmen in the Chikun area of Kaduna State of Nigeria.
International Christian Concern (ICC), a persecution watchdog, reports Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the report in a statement to the media.
Aruwan said bandits also burned down several homes during the attack, which consisted of unknown gunmen shooting sporadically at civilians.
Eight Christians were killed, and a church building was burned down along with a few homes during an attack last week by bandits in northwestern Nigeria’s Kaduna state amid what some advocates say is an attempt by some to “cleanse” the country of its Christians.

Some bandits have invaded the Ungwan Gaida community near Kurmin Kaso in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna, killing eight persons.
Several houses including the Assemblies of God Church were razed by the bandits who stormed the community in large numbers.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, who confirmed the attack, identified those killed by the bandits as Samaila Gajere, Bawa Gajere, Bitrus Baba, Umaru Baba, Solomon Samaila, Sambo Kasuwa, Samuila Kasuwa, and Gideon Bitrus
Aruwan said, “Security agencies have reported that armed bandits attacked Ungwan Gaida community, near Kurmin Kaso, Chikun LGA.

According to the official, a worship centre was razed by the bandits, along with several houses.

The Kaduna State Government says bandits have killed eight residents and razed buildings in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, made the announcement in a statement he issued on Wednesday in Kaduna.
Mr Aruwan said: “Security agencies have reported that bandits attacked Ungwan Gaida community, near Kurmin Kaso, Chikun Local Government Area.
“As of the time of this update, eight residents have been confirmed killed in this attack.”
