relief well which will allow them ultimately to cement up the leak, but that could take months to get done. in the meantime they are turning to desperate measures along the lines of apollo xiii. they are to some degree improvising this. look at the giant containment structure, 40 feet tall. they are going to lower that a mile below the surface of the gulf of mexico over the main leak and there will be a pipe off the top going up to a vessel on the surface where they will be able to offload all of the oil. now they just hope that it works. nobody s ever done anything like this before at this sea level. similar approaches were done several years ago after hurricane katrina by other firms, that wasn t us. but never at this level. this is new technology. reporter: they are hoping they will get that structure actually out into the gulf as soon as tomorrow, at least bringing it out to the rig. and there actually is a back-up as well that will go out along with it, but it will b
