It marked the first case that a COVID-19 measure offender had been prosecuted since the Southeast Asian nation imposed a 14-day lockdown in Phnom Penh capital city and adjacent Ta Khmau city on April 15 to curb the virus spread. Phnom Penh Municipal court spokesman Kuch Kimlong said late on Sunday that Dara Rath Sokun, 27, was arrested on April 15 after he intentionally cut off a police barricade tape deployed to cordon off a street to prevent people from travelling through during the lockdown.

One Convicted, Four in Detention for Breaking COVID-19 Lockdown Measures

share PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA   At least five people have been charged, detained, or convicted for allegedly violating the new COVID-19 law during a two-week lockdown enforced in Phnom Penh and Takhmau. The authorities have arrested at least five men in separate incidents for violating lockdown measures. Three men, including Ung Chanthouk, who is a two-star National Police official, were arrested for social and drinks gathering, which is against current restrictions. The trio has been charged under Article 4 and 11 of the COVID-19 law, which carries a maximum of three years in prison, said Kuch Kimlong, spokesperson of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
